AntiViral Spray – What I Love About It
The AntiViral Spray utilises the antimicrobial properties which all essential oils have, but in varying degrees.
I am NOT an aromatherapist but have been using them since 1988… so I am not new to it. However, despite the numerous courses I have done as well as my own research over the decades, I am not qualified to come up with a blend such as this on my own. 🙂
Salvatore Battaglia is the creator of the brand “Perfect Potion” which you may have seen over the years. He also is the author of many text books used for aromatherapy… I have been a fan of his for a very long time. He IS an aromatherapist and a leader in the field.
He recently shared a post with a recipe for dealing with Influenza viruses, with an emphasis on coronavirus. Having reviewed the research he presented, and trusting his knowledge, insight and skills (he’s qualified in this area) I have followed his recipe and advice.
Battaglia (2020) points out in his post that:
As with all respiratory viruses, there are many simple preventative actions one can take. Most government and medical agencies such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention provide us with practical and simple measures to prevent the spread and risk of infection. This includes: Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, and then throw the tissue in the rubbish bin.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
So, despite having a spray such as this, it is essential that you maintain proper hygiene.
What Is In It?
This is a 15 mL green (or blue) glass bottle with a spray nozzle.
It contains witch hazel (60%) and purified water as a base with essential oils of Eucalyptus Blue Mallee, Tea Tree, Cinnamon Bark and Lemon.
I have strictly followed the recipe that Salvatore Battaglia (one of the founding fathers of aromatherapy in Australia) shared in his post about Influenza Viruses. You can read it here.
How To Use It
Spray it in the room (not on skin) to help address airborne microorganisms.
